Exposure therapy: It is a form of cognitive-behavioural therapy. Under this therapy, the patient is put under several situations that frighten him/her. This involves overcoming fear and getting new insight.

This involves five following steps:

  • Evaluation: 

The patient is asked to open up about personal fears to the doctor. This involves recalling any past experience which still can frighten the patient.

  • Feedback: 

This step involves forming a special treatment plan.

  • Developing fear: 

The doctor makes a list of situations, similar to the patient’s experiences.

  • Exposing to those situations: 

The patient is exposed to all the situations listed by the doctor one by one, starting from least frightening to most frightening.

The reactions of the patient are noted down by the doctor. The doctor explains the reason why the patient acted like this, giving a lesson to the patient. This helps the person to overcome his fears by understanding the reasons behind the fear.
