Vestibular Migraine Diet: Food That Will Aid To Fight Migraine

These include healthy fats, such as olives, flaxseeds, and coconut oil, that contain omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

Avoid dairy products extracted from animals. Instead, make use of coconut and oat milk.

Animal products include meat, fish, and eggs. These are in proteins and will give the necessary strength required by the brain cells. Avoid boxed or processed meats and fish as they are not good as fresh ones.

  5. Beverages containing caffeine.
  6. Chocolates
  7. Consumption of artificial sweeteners. 

Foods that cause less harm as compared to the above: 

  1. Fruits rich in vitamin C or citrus fruits.
  2. Onions and tomatoes
  3. Dry fruits and seeds
  4. Beans and lentils
  5. Canned goods such as canned soups and bouillon cubes with MSG. 
  6. Store-bought juices and carbonated sodas.
  7. Nutrient supplements
  8. Fermented and pickled goods
  9. Beef, chicken livers, and other organ meats. 
  10. Animal dairy products such as cow milk, ice creams, yogurts, and cheeses. 
  11. Dried and smoked fish. 
HOW TO FOLLOW A VESTIBULAR MIGRAINE DIET.

Make sure that all these foods are not included in your diet during the elimination phase. These will be reintroduced in the upcoming phases. 

How to follow a vestibular migraine diet?

The vestibular migraine diet is a type of elimination diet that helps in identifying the harmful triggers. In this diet, one is required to eliminate or remove those foods that they think are causing more trouble. 

The food that affects one person might be different from the other. So, this diet is personalized for each individual. After a few days, the foods that were eliminated are again reintroduced, group by group. This is done to determine whether any food groups have triggered the symptoms or not.

The elimination diet involves a duration of 5 to 6 weeks. This diet should be prescribed and followed under the supervision of an expert or a dietician. 

This will ensure a safe procedure that does not cause any other deficiency issue.

  1. The elimination phase: 

In this phase, a person should delete all the foods which they think might trigger the symptoms of a vestibular migraine attack. This makes it easy to tell whether or not your diet has any effect on the symptoms. This phase lasts for 2 to 3 weeks. 

  1. The reintroduction phase:

The phase involves re-introducing or including the foods or food groups that were eliminated in the previous phase. The discarded foods should be eaten individually over 2 to 3 days. You should make a note of how your vestibular migraine reacts to it simultaneously. 

The foods that do not affect your migraine conditions are safe to consume. And the food or food group that worsens the symptoms of vestibular migraine needs to be eliminated from your diet. 

This phase lasts for another 2 to 3 weeks and might last longer if prescribed by a professional.
